Our goals for this blog.
So this will be my third blog I’ve started. I pray I can keep it going, and give something of value to anyone to decides to read this. This is my goal, or desire, or prayer. I want to become more dependent upon Jesus Christ, and be a strong follower of his word. To do that, I need to quit my job and stay home with my daughter, and be a manager of my home. I want to be more sufficient upon what we can make with our own two hands, or the hands of someone we know and trust. I want to love my family more, and be a…

How to mostly stress free host Thanksgiving (if you are doing most of the cooking)
Ok, this is for my ladies who love to do it all – you want to host Thanksgiving but also want to cook everything and have found all your favorite recipes and don’t want any deviations because you know they rock. Or if you are like me, have come from decades of family Thanksgiving dinners that were chaotic at best, with everything but the mac and cheese and turkey coming from a box. And there is nothing wrong with that. Stauffers stove top just happens to be one of my biggest comfort foods, and probably for that reason. However something changed one year when I was broke and couldn’t afford…

Why Fresh Milled Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread should be added to your baking repertoire
Ok, so making this bread fresh milled, whole wheat sandwich bread has been a game changer. I love baking and I am very much a health conscious person, but not the “fat is bad so are carbs” kind. And my journey to using fresh milled wheat berries has been a long one – in fact, I’m still learning so much. I’ve tried so many recipes it’s not even funny. I’ve tried sourdough and I’m not a fan of the “falling flat” loaf. So to keep this easy for me, I’ve used commercial yeast, it’s Bob’s Red Mill if that makes you feel any better, it does me. So there’s that. Also it’s…

How we turned a cheap table from Amazon into a conversation piece
How we turned a cheap table from Amazon into a conversation piece This post contains affiliate links. Full disclosure can be found here. Everything we used to complete this task can be found here (except the paint) Before we started this short endeavor, we knew we had a color we wanted to use in our kitchen for our counters under the island. They are currently black; we want to paint them this beautifully calming “Monet blue” from Behr. While figuring out the best (cost effective and good looking) we decided to give the color a try on a smaller piece in our home. I decided to replace the incredibly large couch…

Cleaning out our freezers | Making room for our pig!
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases We are getting a whole pig this winter so we are trying to clean out some freezer space. We aren’t going to buy another one since we have plenty of freezers and space. But I have tallow and bones taking up a large space that could be on a shelf in my basement. So I have been slowly but surely processing throughout the weeks. One of our freezers has a freezer max system in it, and let me tell you, it is one hundred percent worth. It. We have a half of a cow in our chest freezer and this is…

Busy Bread Baking Weekend!
My mom was here for the weekend and I love baking for her to bring food home so a busy bread baking weekend it was! (ok, not busy since most was hands off it just sounds better that way haha) and this was the first time I make her bread from freshly milled wheat berries! But the weather outside was frightful, ok, so it was very rainy and yucky and we didn’t get any of the snow promised so I made up for it by baking some bread with my momma. I’m trying to show her how hands off most of the bread items are, because she is very busy…

Summer Garden wrap up and what I learned the first year.
Ok, so I was very bad at writing these posts this summer but I finally got around to writing again and figuring out what I learned. But in my defense I was learning and it was very busy! I could have taken the time to get these written, but guys, the overstimulation (not the right word!) was real. Everything was so important to me, and I spend a lot of time probably where I didn’t need to, but being there was really good for me and it was my calm in my stressful days at work so if that’s what I needed, then that is what I needed! However, I…

Gardening Edit: Building Garden Beds
Gardening Edit: Building Garden Beds. We have been so busy planning and building and filling beds in our backyard! We bought a third garden bed and an archway trellis to fit between them all. We also decided to have some regular beds in ground, and that took some prep work to get it (hopefully) ready. It took awhile to get to the beds due to life and weather, but we finally started on them this weekend and I am so ready for our plants to start sprouting! This post contains affiliate links, the full discolusure can be found here I also potted up some of my veggies into this four…

Gardening Edit: Entry 1 – Early Spring
OMG I am so excited for the upcoming growing season! You could say I wet my plants hahah. Ok, no. I am sorry for that. Anyways, in true Jacki style, I dove right in. While I know that we won’t have our vegetable garden to the size where it would provide all our veggies for the year, we have to start somewhere. So I am starting with what I know we love and use so much of. Here are the fruits and vegetables we are growing this year: These will keep up busy this summer! I am already have the tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers in soil blocks, I put them…
